The funny idea can work both as a stand alone and a story.

Here is how I expanded an old stand-up joke of mine into a 2 minute sketch I’ve put up as a part of Pack Theater sketch team Moonshot.

A joke:

The cool thing about being a non-native speaker is that as an outsider, you notice things that native speakers might miss.

For example, I’ve noticed that the word “FILM” and the word “MILF” are made up of the same letters. Which made me wonder – how many horny dyslexics went to film school… to study MILF???

<MAYBE FOLLOW UP>: Halfway through the semester, they raise their hand, ‘Uh, excuse me, the camera angles, the lighting, the plot – that’s all very cool but… when do we get to the MILF part?
